METRO: LAST LIGHT

metro last lightMetro: Last Light was released May 14, 2013 by Deep Silver. The game was developed by 4A Games. Metro: Last Light is a strategic first person shooter. This is the second release of the Metro series.

Artyom is the protagonist in Metro: Last Light. The story takes place in post-apocalyptic Moscow, mostly inside the metro system where the player’s character was raised.

Even more lethal is the surface, it’s severely irradiated and a gas mask must be worn at all times due to the toxic air. Searching for spare filters is vital. Often, locations have an intricate layout, and the game lacks any form of map, leaving the player to try and find their objectives only through a compass. Creatures abound outside that have become adapted to the environment.

It is the year 2034, a year after the events of Metro 2033. Beneath the ruins of post-apocalyptic Moscow, in the tunnels of the Metro, the remnants of mankind are besieged by deadly threats from outside and within. Mutants stalk the catacombs beneath the desolate surface, and hunt amidst the poisoned skies above. But rather than stand united, the station-cities of the Metro are locked in a struggle for the ultimate power, a doomsday device from the military vaults of D6.

A civil war is stirring that could wipe humanity from the face of the earth forever. As Artyom, burdened by guilt but driven by hope, you hold the key to our survival the last light in our darkest hour. One thing we noticed in the campaign is rodents which add a new element to the scenery. There are also large spiders that run around in the tunnels. Lots of water dripping in the tunnels too–gives the game more realism.

The AI in Metro: Last Light is also much better than before but it does seem somewhat uneven. The human AI seems to have been improved the most putting into the level usually seen with role playing games.

Deeper into the game the Venice map has a decidedly adult look to it. Part of the game play includes visiting a strip club featuring topless women. The game offers two choices: to look or to touch.

FEATURES

  • Location post-apocalyptic Moscow, the life of humanity gleams in metro (subway) tunnels, and the stations turned into small states with different political regimes.
  • Variety of gameplay styles possibility to play as a heavy strike fighter, as an inconspicuous killer.
  • A player, who attentively follows the events in the game world, will find out ways to influence the advance of the plot and may reach the non-standard end. Besides the basic plot, there is a variety of non-obligatory tasks.
  • In station-cities it is possible to meet as fighters, as peaceful citizens and the station lives its own life independent from player. Children run and play among dwellings, adults are busy with different businesses women cook meals, sew; men have discussions, clean weapons, drink tea or home-brew, read books; old people seat near tents.
  • The high-level AI is similar to real people actions. The enemies may conduct simple and aimed fire, avoid line of fire, hide in covers, ambush and attack suddenly, call for help, and mention a character hidden in shadow.
  • A number of various anomalies: gravitation distortion, energy clot (looking at some of which the character may perish), intelligent immaterial images, which punish with death for any aggression at their presence and many other, the role of which will be discovered only before the game release.
  • Ammo = money. Fire off money or be economic, use tactics.
  • DirectX 9, 10, 11 are all supported

4A Games proprietary 4A Engine is capable of rendering breathtaking vistas, such as those showing the ruined remnants of Moscow, as well as immersive indoor areas that play with light and shadow, creating hauntingly beautiful scenes akin to those from modern-day photos of Pripyats abandoned factories and schools. You need an IPS panel configured to sRGB to appreciate the quality of the artwork.
