No Man’s Sky was released on August 12, 2016 by Hello Games. The game was developed by Hello Games. No Man’s Sky is a procedurally generated exploration and survival game with role playing elements.
Update 6 has been released in September 2017. The game has now seen several updates since it was released.
The galaxy is a living, breathing place. Trade convoys travel between stars, factions vie for territory, pirates hunt the unwary, and the police are ever watching. Every other player lives in the same galaxy, and you can choose to share your discoveries with them on a map that spans known space.
No Man’s Sky is a space simulation game that loosely resembles Freelancer etc. The game also has some city building aspects to it. The game is inspired by the adventure and imagination that we love from classic science-fiction, No Man’s Sky presents you with a galaxy to explore, filled with unique planets and lifeforms, and constant danger and action.
Some of the action is terrestrial while some is in space. Every star is the light of a distant sun, each orbited by planets filled with life, and you can go to any of them you choose. Fly smoothly from deep space to planetary surfaces, with no loading screens, and no limits. In this infinite procedurally generated universe, you’ll discover places and creatures that no other players have seen before – and perhaps never will again.
The surface action brings Orion: Prelude to mind with its swarms of dinosaurs. Players have to land on planets to collect resources. These resources can be sold to to buy upgrades. The HUD can scan a planet. When you find a treasure chest they have a stockpile. Once you find a planet with natural deposits of valuable ore (Gold, Emeril, etc), then use your scanner to locate crystallized versions of the same element. The same amount of Emeril can be drawn from 3 crystals in 1/4 the time it takes to mine it from an ore deposit.
Steaming from a lone ship is another way to acquire resources. This of course invites retaliation.
Vortex Cubes are trade commodities that can easily fetch 25-35k units each. It has been confirmed that the game’s logic litters each relevant area on a specific type of planet with around 50 cubes. All planets with Vortex Cubes are rich with an almost unlimited count. If you collect the Cubes near Vortex Stones you will be attacked by Sentinels.
Hostile planets usually have richer resources to grab but they are also patrolled by lots of Sentinels. These can be avoided by running into a building or getting back into space.
Emeril and rare exotics like Omegon can fetch high prices at space stations. Like Freelancer, prices vary considerably.
As the player is drawn to the center of the galaxy, hostile creatures and pirates make survival a challenge. Survival will depend on how you upgrade your spaceship, you sidearms and your suit. Go beyond the known frontier and discover places and things that no one has ever seen before. Upgrade your engines to jump ever farther, and strengthen your suit for survival in toxic environments that would kill the unwary.
Some criticised the planets as being too much alike. The game perhaps could use some more work with planets. No ring systems and no gas giants to add to the variety.
Stars are also pretty much alike. Event the old Freelancer had many different star colors in the game which more reflects the real stars in the sky
The game uses some procedural generation of the gameworld. A patent dispute has apparently been made but the game continues to be sold.
Sorry for the console video, no PC version was available with better graphics.

We tested this game with the Phenom II X4 965 with 12GB of RAM. The HD 7870 is loaded hard with this game. We also tried the GTX 660 Ti and it was also equally loaded hard. We tested this game with the i3-2100 and a GT 640 and this game was unplayably slow. The game is very CPU demanding and X4 is loaded hard suggesting X8 is a better choice. The game engine needs at least OpenGL 4.5 and older cards will not work. The game’s stated system requirements need to be updated. See the page on Game Performance.
