STEAM DIRECT

Steam is now making some changes following a 38% increase in the number of games being offered in 2016 alone.

Steam was using their Greenlight system to consider games for the market. Now they are going to abandon it and use game reviews more directly. Steam changed their review system to add more weight to recent comments which will consider any patches to a given game.

Steam has also removed a few benchmarks from their Greenlight system.

Now steam will use a new system called Steam Direct. Now developers will have to plunk down cash.

We will ask new developers to complete a set of digital paperwork, personal or company verification, and tax documents similar to the process of applying for a bank account. Once set up, developers will pay a recoupable application fee for each new title they wish to distribute, which is intended to decrease the noise in the submission pipeline.

Now the process of soliciting reviews and other possible fake reviews, the new system is intended to make the system more fair and equitable.

Valve will test games to be sure they work adequately.
