Windows Hello is a new biometric framework designed to make it easier to use a PC. By using facial recognition or a fingerprint, Windows can bypass the need for passwords and PIN codes.

We have a Lenovo X220 which has been upgraded to Windows 10. The machine has an integrated fingerprint reader and a camera. Windows recognizes the fingerprint scanner but the 720p camera is not supported. Windows presently only works with Intel’s cameras seen on more recent machines.

Some users may have to enable a policy to select using biometric authentication.

Press Win+R and select

The double click on Administrative Templates, then select Windows Components and Biometrics. Enable the biometrics and this will allow Windows to use he fingerprint scanner.

Swiping a finger is a lot easier than typing a 16 character password.
